Thinking at the moment of moving from current go kart bumpy noisy thing to an armchair on wheels.
Is there a lexus forum or anything similar to find peoples thoughts and experiences with them.
Current thoughts are for an IS possibly even shh a diesel, but I like the look and the idea of lots of comfort having driven the VX for nearly 4 years as a daily car appeals, even on sunny days.

I have no experience of the IS but I've heard there have been problems with the diesel - but may be wrong.

Sorry to hijack the thread but
Lexus IS 2.0 - 174k miles, its up for £2k, my friend wants it as aposed to some 1.0 econobox with 80k miles and windy windows for the same money.
Its from a dealer and the ad claims it comes with an interim service freshly done, full MOT, full TAX, and a 2 year warranty...
With that many miles on it is it a no go and a rather silly option or does the 2 year warrenty negate this? What is the servicing/maintenance likely to cost every year?

It is a very heavy car for the power though it must be known.

You can't really compare the IS to the rest of the series, as the IS handles very well compared to the rest of the range.yeah, as elster has said, the IS was lexus' attempt to compete with BMW (rather than mercedes as it does with the rest of the range), so it had a more 'sporty' setup.
I really liked mine, very competent chassis, good all rounder, my only complaint is it could have done with a bit more power...
As for the 174k, if its been serviced properly and had everything changed when it should (belts etc..) then theres no reason there wont be another 100k in it..

The IS actually felt smaller in the back,a nd front, and never felt as sharp, if you know what I mean. I do think you will struggle to better a lexus in the luxury department, especially the GS and LS.It started life as a T reg, now it is on a private plate BIG ####
It has full service history up until 2003/60k miles where it was purchased by a man, there were no contact details for this man, neither was there any history of him maintaining the car what so ever, no stamps from 60k while under his ownership and 110k miles. ):
The car itself had fairly tatty bodywork and inside was clearly showing its age, but it was fully spec'd and surprisingly all the electrics including the pop up sat nav worked.
I advised my friend to walk away, as tempting as it was for that price.

I just bought a 06 is220d se-l. So far im very happy with it. Very comfy, refined and great toys.
Some of the comments on the owners club about the diesel are valid but I think a bit OTT. Maybe they have very high standards!! For me its a lovely car and nice step up from my 02 passat
