Celica 2.0l GT advice

Been thinking about getting one of these cars for ages, and at last I've found a 1996 M/Y (4 headliight version)fairly standard low mileage car.(I think they're the Series 6 facelift but could be wrong)
Any advice on what to check, what they're like to live with, any pit-falls or positives, mpg figures etc.

Any help will do chaps & chapesses

I've had a 1998 UK model GT for just over a year, never had any problems with it what so ever.

Great car, drives and handles well and with something like 175 Bph it was rather nippy too.

Bought mine for £ 1600, and sold it a year and 10.000 miles later for £ 1750,

i have had mine for nearly two years now and is the beast drive i have ever had got mine for £950 well worth every penny not had anything go wrong on mine so well worth looking in to mate

get one fit a k&n filter kit and they roar get the two liter model brit model would be better as parts are sometimes a pain for the jap model

oh yeah mine does about 320 miles to a tank so they aint bad on juice either

True.

I've driven mine from Essex to Holland (via Kent, France and Belgium) on a single tank of petrol. I did drive during the night and 90% of the trip was motorway but was still very impressed with it.

Bit more power, just as reliable

Check the car type, there are variations on the GT, e.g. SSII and SSIII which indicate a sightly different suspension.

Fig 8's, wishbones etc are the common thing to look out for.

ETA - You do realise you'll have to buy a red one judging by the pics in this thread! :P (I had a green ST but a red gen7)

Hmmm, would love a GT4 , but I think I'll start with a normal GT untill I settle down with it, then, when finances dictate, get the GT4

Really like these cars, my bro had an earlier Celica, looked like this:



Was a very good car, very solid despite the number of miles on it. Also pretty rapid too, although more surprising above 80mph than below it. You did have to thrash the nuts off it to get the best from it though.

Me too. I had a 5th generation before i bought my gen. 6.

Good cars indeed, never had any trouble with either one of them.

Well,the deed is done, I pick up the new motor next Friday. 1996 Series 6 photo's to follow some time.

Well done, and you won't regret the decision I promise!!

If anyone's still looking for a car, I've heard my old one will be up for sale again soon, the guy's just getting some of the paint touched up on the kit.

Spoony, if you can't find a bumper, how about a pre-kitted car?

Personally never liked those aftermarked bumpers. Looks a bit to chavy to me...

Can't say I like that bumper. It's WAY ott and totally ruins the lines of the car.
