Standard Impreza Sport - Tyres Rubbing?

I've noticed that with a couple of passengers on board, any sort of spirited cornering in our V-reg Impreza Sport estate runabout results in tyre-rubbing noises from the rear. Tyres, wheels and suspension are completely standard. It doesn't appear to be damaging tyres, bodywork or suspension components.

If TADTS, I'm quite happy just to not corner hard with weight on board - it's not a sports car, it's our cheap, practical roly-poly fishing/tip/B&Q wagon - but do they all do that, or is something wrong?

I doubt you'll get too many Sport owners on here, but I would guess it should not. Tired springs? How many miles has the old girl done?

The only Impreza wagon I've been in had ridiculous 18" chome 3-spoke mags and did that shockingly, shouldn't be an issue with standard wheels though unless springs/shock are pretty tired. I don't think any of my Legacies have rubbed even when loaded to the hilt and cornering on the doorhandles (off-road use excepted ).

105k. I had a sniff around Scoobynet and found a few mentions of similar issues with performance models, but it's hard to tell who is running standard wheels and who isn't, and in any case the boundaries of "standard" are a bit fuzzy with some of the versions sold in the UK.

Perhaps you should buy a set of 'standard' Turbo springs from someone who has upgraded. I might upgrade to Prodrive springs one day... but don't hold your breath.

ETA if you want a set of standard UK MY00 Turbo wheels, drop me a line. I have two sets stacked-up in the garage doing nothing. The six-spoke wheel is ASTONISHINGLY light for a 16" alloy at 7.5kgs, if such things interest you
