Searching: Subaru Legacy engine
Discussion
I'm after a 2.5 Subaru Legacy engine to re-engine my cool but under-powered and snail-like VW camper. Ideally a low-ish milage (below 75k)SOHC post '99 2.5 although a 4-cam pre '99 would do. To make it work, I need the engine, ECU, immobiliser, keys etc, thus a transmission or body write-off whole car would be ideal. If any-one knows of any potential vehicles or good leads, please drop us a line. Many thanks in advance.
Quite common for VW camper modifiers is the 2.0L WRX or STi newage lump with the ignition barrel, keys/immobiliser, wiring loom and ECU. They fit 2/4pot brake newage calipers as well and they go like the clappers. Nice alternative to fitting an air-cooled Porsche lump and box and you get 4x4 capability like a T25 Synchro. Your best bet would be to get an import loom and ECU (they don't come with an immobiliser fitted) so you can use your standard key or rig up a push button and aftermarket immobiliser.
I use Grade A Subaru for used bits http://www.gradea-subaru.co.uk/4.html and the last time i spoke to Andy they had an import loom and ECU (very easily remappable). I'm pretty sure they will have an engine, gearbox, prop/driveshafts etc etc... and should be able to advise from a Subaru point of view.
These chaps http://www.rjes.com/html/contact.html specialise in VW to Subaru conversions and are in Cheadle in Staffs. They have a good website.
