BMW X5 50e - 3 pin charging cable
Discussion
Hi,
I’ve bought an X5 50e and it comes with a charging cable for a fast charger. It’s a fair chunk to have one installed and I have a decent socket on my drive anyway.
My working patterns mean that a 11 hour charging time is not a problem, does anyone know the cable I would need to buy to charge via a standard socket?
Thanks

I believe it's called "Flexible Fast Charger (type 2)" I had it thrown in as part of my deal but BMW doesn't seem to give you the option when purchasing new to spec this now. You should still be able to purchase from BMW. There are 3rd party versions aswell if you do a quick google.
I charge my M5 the same way but be aware the 3 pin socket you plug into has to be an EV rated version. I swapped out one of my double sockets to a single EV spec 3 pin socket. The socket will degrade if you don't and go faulty.

It is, but when it's wet etc, it's also a faff, as you also have to unplug it/store it. When the missus got her first plug-in hybrid we had one installed about 5 years ago, as a week was long enough before it annoyed her. Plus, it charges faster and so on the days you need a quicker top-up. It's the long-term solution as these types of cars are not going away.
