Hi all,

Not posted in a couple of years, last time I think was when I still had my MK7 ST. Few cars have come and gone since then whilst I ticked a few boxes, which leads us to the present day..

This is my October 2015 registered, BMW 340i M Sport F31 touring.. on a nicely run in.. 152k miles!

There was 2 cars in the household, a MK7 Golf R manual, and a F30 BMW 328i, which for what it was I found extremely thirsty, and the lack of folding rear seats quickly became annoying. So the Golf was sold, and the decision to chop in the 328i against a 335i was made.

Then I found the 340i on Facebook Marketplace listed privately for £11k, after a few exchanged messages, a deal was made and I made the short trip across Manchester to view it.

My car was valued at £6250, though it owed me less, so with the remaining balance settled, I drove away in my to me “£10k” 340i touring. Considering low mileage examples are still approaching or exceeding £20k, and this had a stack of genuine BMW service history, I was quite happy with the deal

That's superb value.

My 535i (N55) is coming up to 150k and you wouldn't know it!

Watches with interest. Are B58s genuinely robust at high mileage?

Ive been looking at F31 340i's amongst other things and you are right - current asking price is £20k+ for a 10yr old car with approaching 100k miles. Also often poor specs.

That's a great buy. Keep it serviced to within an inch of it's life, overhaul the cooling and suspension and it'll be a really good car for a lot more miles yet

Have you just popped it onto the F31 section on Reddit too?

Im approaching 95K miles on mine. Couple of bits I've done to mine over the last five years;

-Yearly Servicing regardless on miles
-Had ZF gearbox oil changed at 65k
-Changed the coolant tank cap around 55k miles as seal degrades and coolant evaporates - Known issue
-Changed the PCV valve twice due to rips and white smoke from exhaust (Cheap kit from ebay) - Known issue but BMW UK wont honor a replacement like the US does!
-Changed both front shocks at 92k due to leak
-Changed thermostat and Water pump at 91k miles (preemptive maintenance)
-Changed both front brake arms due to splits
-Always put decent tires on - mandatory in my opinion

Current issues at 95k which i need to resolve
- Small leak on Diff seal (keeping an eye on it)
- Handbrake cable clip above fuel tank snapped so cable touches fuel tank and rattles (more a sound issue but to get to it need to drop the fuel take so an expensive fix currently!)
-Exhaust "Chirps" when warm on upshifts, suspect issue with valve, trying to convert the other half to upgrade to the MPPSK.....
- Currently have a lumpy idle from cold which I'm trying to resolve, I've cleaned the MAF sensor, changed the PCV valve (again) and got a new EVAP module coming today to hopefully cure the issue, if not its booked into the garage on Friday to do a proper diagnostic.

Other than that been issue free and one of the best car's i've ever owned, done multiple trips up to Scotland, South of France and all over the UK, always puts a smile on my face and gets great MPG.

The handbrake clip is not an expensive fix.
And you want to get it done ASAP as the rattle you will hear is when the car is under load. It's not the cable hitting the fuel tank. It's the cable hitting and rubbing on the driveshaft - see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg3t5Yig92Q
I had to do this on my F31 340i as well.

I bought a £5 clip of Alibaba and it fits over the existing clip. Do not get another BMW one as they are plastic and you will be in the same place again.

Great work - they are lovely cars, I already regret selling mine but the only real downside to them is that they aren't really that big, which I need more and more these days it seems. Mine was transformed with Birds suspension, diff and remap.

If you want a set of 2018 340i m-sport springs and dampers with 12k on them I've got a set lying around in the garage...

Mine has a lumpy idle (albeit a N55) but that's been traced back to the valvetronic.
Might be worth a look on yours too?
