Hi

I have an ambivalent relationship with active cruise in the UK

Im specc'ing a new 3 series and its is bundled with the Tech Pack, which in itself is probably worthy of another post.......

There was a spate of sensor thefts a little while ago and I was wondering if this is still a thing?

If BMW have made a mod to make them less nickable/sellable I will probably go with it

Cheers

Ultimately, lots of cars get parts stolen off them, from Porsche headlights to Corsa panels.

It probably still goes on. It was def popular on X5's and M3's. VAG cars get them stolen a lot.

I had a 5 series with adaptive and paid £600 for fitting the security bracket. It only costs about £25 for the bracket but they spent a few hours removing the bumper and sorting it.

If you park on the road then it would be worth it I expect. Park on your drive maybe less likely ... equally park against a fence or wall less so again.

I think it is more prevalent on X5s as it is more obvious they have it. The lower level cars more often don't have it. An M340i can have it but most don't perhaps ?

The G42 M240i looks like it has it but the sensor is just a normal part of the anti collision system, not adaptive - well, wasn't adaptive on my last one. Def looked like adaptive but sadly they all had that sensor and it wasn't adaptive biggrin. It can be spec'd separately but I don't think many exactly bother on the 2 series ... but if they did the sensor looks exactly like every other 2 series.

£600 is a lot for a bracket but the cost of sorting it if they do steal the sensor is maybe. £3000-3500 ? There was a story that attd theft of the sensor with the bracket fitted failed but left a bent bracket and a lot of damage which I guess cost £££ to repair.

The anti theft kit does come with a neat little sticker to warn people off .... whether a thief would see it or be put off is another matter though.

the worry for me would be that a vindictive little st would deliberately break/vandalise the sensor just to 'prove a point' frown

To be fair, that crossed my mind.
