Hi all – I’m considering this X5 45e. Can I trouble you for thoughts on price and spec (What are the must haves on these) along with most importantly, any reliability concerns with the 22 model year? This is not under BMW approved being sold by a Ford dealer so is it possible to add a BMW warranty on it subject to dealer inspection? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202504221...

Spec wise that is quite low for me. The smallest wheels(20's), no pan roof or Harmon Kardon stereo, no heated steering wheel or heated rear seats etc etc.

None of those are essential don't get me wrong, but they are nice to have though I think.

As above, it is very poverty spec - vernasca leather, basic sports seats with no lumbar support, no laser light, no panoramic sunroof, 2 zone climate, only backup camera (not surround cameras). Not clear if head up display is standard fit or not. It also does not have integral steering (rear wheels turns which reduces the turning circle and improves maneuverability)

I would want at least Harman Kardon, comfort seats and surround camera (the X5 is very large), nice to have are merino leather and panoramic sunroof and laser lights.

Thanks all - struggling to find that sort of spec in budget. There is this one - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202503190... but looks to have Harmon Kardon delete? Or is that part of the tech pack?

If fact thinking about it now, a lot were missing HK because of the chip shortages at the time. So there will be a lot of them without it to be fair I think.

Our 2022 GLE400d was missing wireless charging for your phone for the same reason for example.

When these were built, back during the Covid times, HK delete was where it was ordered on the spec sheet, but not delivered. This was due to the whole parts shortage.
So, this mean you have a bog-standard audio, which is ste for a premium car.
Bowers & Wilkins was the best option, but finding one is like rocking horse st.

Or if you're happy to go the custom route, find a bloody good audio specialist and have them replace the awful basic system with something far superior.

There are an awful lot of BMWs nice ones with 40d/45e/40i engines etc...that have no wireless charging or HK and other features missing as has been said due to covid shortages.

I love that it's listed as a feature, only the Germans would do that.

We went to look at this one back in 2022(ended up buying a brand new 2022 GLE400D instead though, but we are in a lovely specced 2024 X5 40d now though), and it gives you an idea of how nicely specced you can get them, but like everything, you do mostly end up paying for it though.

Here are the options in our 2024 X5 40d as well, but you do see a lot of them with not a lot on them though in fairness.

That's a fairly low spec, we've got a 2022 45e too and we're really constrained when ordering.

Wanted Harmon Cardon - couldn't due to chips
Wanted professional tech pack - key options missing so didn't bother
Wanted sunroof - stupid cost and delayed delivery a few months so didn't bother (baby on way)
Wanted comfort pack - missing options and theft risk...

Still came to £80k list but we paid £62k, couldn't have done that as all options had no discounts applied so ended up with M-Sport pro, tanzanite and seat USB's - they come fairly well spec'ed as standard tbh.

Thanks all - completely forgot about the chip shortages which helps explain a lot.
What are peoples thoughts on the model overall for that year (Ignoring the missing options). They do seem otherwise well specced

I don't think that they do come well specced as standard to be honest. I went to test drive a 2023 X5 50e that I thought was well specced, but it was only when I started digging a bit more that I realised that it wasn't. Hence why I started looking at X5's with much more spec in comparison, and I ended up in the well specced X5 40d instead.

Ours has been perfect, does ~46 miles on electric in summer and ~35 miles in winter. At 23k miles it's still on its original tyres and nothing has gone wrong (beyond a fox chewing an ABS sensor). Great to drive (versus most SUV's) but it is big so parking in an older multi-storey is a pain. In some of the options:

HK - necessary, our standard audio is st
Laser lights - pointless, standard headlights more than good enough
Surround camera - pointless, you have front, rear sensors plus rear camera and side mirrors as standard
Extended leather - nice, but with a toddler I'm glad we've got the standard, easier to clean milk vom out of
Sunroof - personal preference, how often is it too sunny/covered in bird poo/closed anyway?

I thought both the X5 45e and 50e that I drove felt a touch on the heavy side to be honest, but I was really attracted to the running them on the battery only for a few miles though. In the end we plumped for the 40d though, but that was mainly because we do around 28k miles a year in it though. If I/we were only doing local trips, then I'd definitely be after the 45/50e for sure I think.

I'm with you on that don't get me wrong, but the roof is really nice for letting light into the interior though for me, especially if you have black leather, not such a deal breaker with a white/cream interior to be fair though I think.

Fair but depends where you're coming from too - the standard spec/comfort was a good clip above our fully-loaded 2015 M135i/my old E39 540i (couldn't compare it to the Exige I sold for it...)
