A made a post recently about issues with my BWM 318i petrol 2018. Had to replace the timing chains at 40k miles and now it needs a new clutch at 44k miles.

Going to cut my loses and sell it. At this point the extra money I’ve spent could have gone into a nicer and newer car and I’m not willing to invest more and have lost faith that this car will be reliable.

Would you advertise that this work has done? Would it add value or put people? I don’t want to hide it, bmw themselves did the chains and an inspection of the car/engine and said everything else is in good condition so I’m not selling with any known issues but it’s low mileage to have such issues. BMW themselves couldn’t really explain why it’s happened at such low milage.

Be absolutely open and honest - keep it simple

Try Motorway and WBAC too and see what they offer; might be an easier route

Absolutely not.

Certainly an odd one. BMW have inspected the engine and said everything looks in fine condition. Paint and body work all in good condition, so is the interior. Had some late services/part service history but I had it serviced when I bought it and then again 12 months later. Next service isn’t due until July. I think it’s probably going to run fine for awhile now that the servicing is all up to date and it’s had the chains and clutch done, I just can’t risk having to put more money into it

My mini had a new clutch and flywheel fitted at 4k miles under warranty in my ownership, I've had it from almost new

It's now about to hit 80k and has been absolutely fine since

Would I mention it had a new clutch at 4k miles, no probably not, unless someone asked me a direct question "has it had a new clutch?"

For me it depends on the age of the car and how recently any notable works were completed.

I wouldn't bother mentioning the new MINI clutch at 4k miles as above poster mentions for example but if you've spent money on the car in the last 12mths/10k miles then yes I'd mention it and as a buyer I'd see it as a positive not a negative.

As a buyer, I would be concerned at that new clutch. All my manual cars have gone to 150k miles without a clutch needing replacing (I usually keep cars that long and then sell for peanuts). The last time I needed a new clutch was on a Mk1 Escort, back in the 1970s.

To answer OP’s question, I would advertise what had been done that was regular, and would answer the question truthfully if asked ‘has any other work been done, apart from regular servicing?’.
