I have recently bought a 2014 320D SE Sport touring and after a few months of ownership, I have totally fallen for it. It's a fantastic car and a great place to be on a long or short drive.

My car came with 17" wheels, they look fine, but I have always felt that wheels make a car. With that in mind, I am considering changing to either 18" or 19" wheels. I know 18s will go on without any need to lower the car, but I need to know if it will make muck difference to the 17 wheels. 19s will go on ok as well, but as its not an M sport car, will it need to be lowered for the 19s to look ok?

Do you have pics of your SE Sport with 18s or 19s and have you had to lower it?

Thanks in advance!

Not an SE but our F31 M Sport sitting on Bilstein B4S shocks with Eibach Pro kit springs as pert of a full suspension overhaul in Jan 2024

Summer - 18 405Ms with Goodyear Assym6 F1 XL tyres - 235/45/18s all round

And on its winters - 18 397s with Goodyear Vector Gen3 all season tyres - same sizes as above

I'd always highly recommend 18s due to more tyre sidewall, comfier drive, and IMO better handling and turn in feel... And I'd recommend the Bilstein / Eibach combo too - much better than OEM

Looks fantastic on 18's, does help a lot that it's lowered though.

This is my daily driver and I have a modified WRX that I tend to spend all my money on, so I am worried about going down the modified rabbit hole with the F31.

I would like to just pop a setoff 18s on there and be happy with it, but I know it won't sit like yours for sure lol!

Is yours an xDrive, SE or M Sport (there's no such thing as an SE M Sport, it's one or the other)

This is how the F31 sat before the suspension overhaul, on OEM M Sport suspension

And on the 405Ms in their original factory satin black

That should give you an idea

It's an SE Sport, so it has the sport interior but SE bumpers etc, not the M Sport bumpers. I have a feeling the M Sport is slightly lower as standard.

Ah cool. Never realised that was an option... Know there's a Luxury spec which to be fair are nice, nearly settled on a 330D Luxury but it's spec wasn't as good as our F31 nor was it under 100k miles (wanted to get fully comp extended warranty etc)

Yes the M Sport will be slightly lower, but with 18s least you'll have the better sidewall, 19s will make the gap even bigger again.

You could go for 17s unless you've got the M Performance Brembo brakes in which case you'll need 18s at a minimum

Or, you could fit OEM Sport springs or Eibach Pro kit springs to yours. Then again doing that, it'd make sense to fit the likes of Bilstein B4 shocks which are c£100 a corner... wink

See, I like what you are saying but it's that rabbit hole i was talking about lol!

Thanks for the advice etc. Yeah the SE Sport is basically the same car as the luxury, but with a slightly more bold interior, coloured accents and sports seats rather than comfort seats. Braking and suspension, as far as I am aware, is the same as the base SE.

I wouldn't say rabbit hole unless you go OTT - I did a full suspension overhaul on ours as it needed it as it was all original 2015, but also wanted to properly future proof it.

And c£800 for Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs and brand new top mounts, dust boots, spring perches etc all round from BMW, IMO, is money well spent

More so as I sold the OEM suspension for £250...

That does sound very reasonable to be honest.

Do the later G80 wheels fit?

These look like a bargain - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Lovely wheels too, shame they won't fit.

I am looking at used original BMW wheels but there seem to be a lot from the 1 series out there in the correct PCD but wrong offset, not so much for the F30/31.

Stick with OEM IMO - 18s I'd go for Style 400Ms, 405Ms or 397s - the 405Ms crop up; rarer than the other 2; but forged at 9kg a corner

OR

Lower it and fit these 437Ms wink

The 400m is my preference, clean without looking too modified, thanks.

They're nice wheels; easy to clean too. Just heavy; that's why I opted for the 405Ms and then got the 397s for winters

I had a set of 400Ms when I first got our F31; as soon as I got it home I binned the 19" 403Ms and fitted these that had winters on; they did a great job until I got the 405s etc

Easy to find too; cheap enough as well. I'd personally fit 235/45 and 255/40 18" non RFTs to them for a better overall ride and handling; 225s on them (the fronts) tend to look stretched

Yes indeed. I haven't seen them elsewhere.
