I appreciate that this might come out sounding clumsy, but here goes.

My old smartphone (2018) would talk to my car (2011), allowing me through bluetooth to play music from my Spotify account (happily shuffling, not just serial access), with incoming calls pausing the music. My new phone, it seems, says I need to choose between one or the other. I tried having both old & new phones in the car at the same time, but again car says I have to choose which one to accept bluetooth messages from.

It seems that I need to choose between installing an Android Carplay system to pick up the music from the phone, or installing a hard drive with a whole load of music loaded (and presumably having to take it out for updates).

Two questions, really. One, am I missing something obvious? and Two, do PHers have experience of the Carplay/hard drive choice?

I would go down the Android Auto/CarPlay route regardless as its well worth it.

I have a CarPlay/Andriod box in my E91. It’s great. Reliable, decent sound and fully integrated with the factory set up. It was £200 a few years ago.

Hmm.

My E89 is the same generation of audio system, and works fine with my 2024 Samsung A55.

Maybe.

If you go into Bluetooth, then details and look at the settings cog, when connected to car, are both options selected?

In the car, they should both be blue.
