Looks like the CCC unit on my (2006) 630i has shat itself.

Driving back tonight - screen suddenly just went black. No sound. Came up with SOS fail.

Soft reboot = nothing

Hard reboot (battery unplugged) = nothing.

Assume the CCC module has failed?

Is it a straight swap with a second hand item? I read online it needs to be coded to the car?

Is this a good opportunity to 'upgrade' to the later CIC system (or something else)? Is this even possible?

Appreciate any advice! TIA. smile

Most likely will need coding if from another car

CIC would be nice but you need afew bits and pieces for it work, plus more expensive. I would say install an android unit/mmi box but I think it would need a working CCC unit in the first place.

Thanks for the reply, yes I think you're right about needing coding if from another car. I was surprised just how expensive second hand units were!

Have found someone on one of the UK 6 Series Facebook groups who does repair.

It's now out the car and ready to be sent off.

Pretty sure the 6 is interchangeable with the 5. If so, I've got a CCC drive in the loft doing nothing as I upgraded to CiC. You can have for the cost of postage if that helps you out.

If not, CiC upgrade, albeit expensive, is imo worth the money.

That's a great offer.

My CCC failed recently. I chucked in a replacement from ebay for £125 (i think from an E60) and sold the broken one for £40 and I didn't have to wait for a repair and chucked the new unit in as I took the old one out. The one in my car had been repaired not long before I got it (3.5 years ago perhaps) and had failed, so I like the fact the one I purchased has never been opened and survived 20 years so far, but time will tell.

I have no interest in CIC as I use Android Auto on Andream which is perfect

That's very kind. Unfortunately have already organised for repair. Very much appreciate the thought though. thumbup

Did you have to code the replacement? If so, how did you do it?

No, it probably has the wrong VIN in there somewhere, but the car doesn't care. You might have to change some settings in Bimmercode or similar depending on options, but that's simple enough.

Oh really? I was under impression it wouldn't communicate with the car properly if it wasn't coded correctly.

My CCC unit failed a few weeks ago and my update isn t so positive.

I ended up buying a refurbed unit from a repairer who coded it beforehand according to my VIN. Installed it but not getting sound from the front door speakers. Supposedly it s not a coding issue as I wouldn t get sound at all if that s the case. I m thinking either the refurbed unit is faulty or I damaged something in the quad connector.

Beyond frustrated because removing and installing the CCC unit was a pain in the ass. Definitely looked easier on the YouTube videos lol. Next step is to reinstall my old CCC as that intermittently worked. If I get proper sound, I know what the issue is.

Update: Well the refurb unit was fine and it was me being an idiot and not connecting the quad connector properly. I did check it twice and it appeared fine and the unit was powering on fine, so I didn’t think that was the issue. On the third check, I free up the quad connector wires more for better access and reconnected it properly this time. Everything working as it should, at the cost of cut up hands, back pain and raised cortisol.

I hate the way there is no room behind the units now and the plugs are wires are all so big an unforgiving.
