X3 G01 - bodywork question

A couple of days ago I found a chip on the edge of the front passenger door after what I thought was white bird ste on the door.
However on closer inspection it was a chip but I am confused as to why it looks like someone has taken a chip out of something ceramic rather than damaged metal.
I’ve attached a photo - is this normal or does it appear it has had a previous knock and repaired with filler. For reference I have only had the car for 4 months and it came from BMW approved dealer.

You'll have to get it fixed. Doesn't matter if you've only had the car for 4 months and it came from BMW approved dealer.

Caught your seatbelt buckle in it?

Thanks - good point on the seatbelt, hadn’t thought of that.
I know I need to get it repaired but I was just surprised how it looks like ceremic and not metal.
