AC Evaporators - G Series Platform

Currently in the market for a 5/7 series from about 2017 on, so G11/30.
On the whole with the right engine choice they seem to be pretty solid, the only thing that scares me a little is the issue regarding the AC evaporators. Has anyone had experience with these going bad? I can find lots of issues on the usual American forums, so maybe this is more a hot climate issue?
The fix looks to be removing the entire dash to access the evaporator, so a horrendous labour bill if not covered under a warranty. I am intending to get warranty with anything I purchase, just trying to read the fine print currently to see if this issue would be covered if it occurred.
