Bmw e91 2007 dpf filter wont do regen
Discussion
Hi having problem with e91 not doing regen.
Have replaced thermostats as were stuck open.
Have replaced glow plugs and control unit.
There are no fault codes apart from dpf filter is partially full.
Have driven with fault code reader plugged in it says it's trying to do a regen but then stops and keeps turning on off. Any ideas would help thanks

Have you checked engine temp since changing thermostats If OK from memory recommendation(from old BMWland) was to drive car and let passenger keep clearing code as it appeared until it stopped reappearing .My 325g (2009 3 litre diesel) has only regenerated 2 or 3 times in 10 years I have owned it (car holds onto gears longer and hot smell from exhaust dpf).
Doing the clear once only may then stopping engine may by why its not getting fully regenerated.

Bimmer-tool app is good fir this, you can set it to manually regen, with an additional tick box that will reset the codes automatically every minute or so. I've used it on a few cars that wouldn't regen any other way with success.
The regen itself will be very slow until it gets below a certain level, then the car will stop throwing the code, regen will be faster and will operate normally after that. (assuming no other faults)

Its got a full tank and rest code before driving, but just turns on and off when trying to do regen not sure if it's a sensor telling it not to do it. Its booked in to garage to see if they can figure it out. Just wondering if anyone else has had this before.
If you've cleared all the other codes, and you have >85c showing, it should work. However, you might need to keep resetting if it's been a while.Yes engine temp is good now was at 50c before thermostat change now at 90c. It said it did a regen about 600 miles ago, the fault for the dpf was cleared and didnt come on for 2 days so thought it was happy then came on again after about 100miles of motor way driving. Just a bit stumped why it wont do it. all the live data seems normal when plugged in to code reader.

It's normally every 500 miles, so that sounds very unlikely. When I had my 535d, most times you don't notice anything.
Not sure about every 500 miles bur seem to recall that C110 cheap diagnaostic bought to check temperate used to forecast how many miles to next regeneration always six furies but in kilometers. . MOT nearly always has an adversary-
exhaust emissions too low to obtain a reading.
But car runs super and 38,mpg for lots of short runs and above 50mpg on long run(brim to brim -not computer). doesn't seem to make sense but if its not broken something that I wont loose sleepover.
