I'm upgrading my gear to Level 2 armour

I've seen Ghost Bikes are selling a 5 piece kit for £27 on ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196892174134?mkcid=16&a...

But it's their own "Black range"

It's for my green laning gear so I thought the softer foam armour is probably better for me than the harder D30 but can I trust it is actually Level 2 armour ?

I would not go anywhere near tarmac wearing £27 kit (from green lane to get to next green lane)...however my Rukka Nivala cold weather textiles cost £2500 so I am probably not the target audience.

If you'd clicked the link you'd see it's just the armour

IF it is Level 2 it's at least as good as the stuff in your jacket tongue out as there isn't a higher rating

If it's level 2 they've both passed the same test, doesn't mean one is as good as the other.

yikes

Wow that's a lot of money! I genuinely didn't realise you could even spend that much on textiles hehe

Agreed, in low speed falls I fully expect the cheaper softer armour to be superior

That Ghost bikes armour looks like the generic stiff and thicker armour you get in cheaper, generic clothing.

Quite different in feel to D30 which even in CE2 is much more flexible n soft.

I've got the D30 in other gear - particularly in low temps but even in warm temps, it's a lot harder and less flexible than the foam type

Although I haven't tried the newer Ghost type, but many people have warned that it isn't as effective as claimed

https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/690035 £1540 for a jacket

https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/... £840 for trousers

Rukka are similar prices. I can't spend that much even though I commute year round. The waterproof kit I wore this winter was less than £75.

I’ve got the Klim Carlsbad kit (very similar to Badlands) which I mainly use for greenlaning when the weather isn’t playing ball. It’s okay but it’s designed for the ‘rounder’ US physique which isn’t me.
I’m tempted to give the Rukka Nivala or Revit Dominator GTX kit a go on the basis that it’s a bit more tailored to the euro build but we’re heading into the better weather now so it’ll be motorcross jersey and under armour for the next few months.

I wouldn't touch that armour with a barge pole. Even assuming it actually works on impact, it is non vented so will be relatively sweaty, especially when doing "active" riding off-road. Also, that solid-style armour tends to be very rigid when it is cold, so a bit uncomfortable.

Have a look at Rheon armour. I just bought some to put in my old road jacket, and it is much more flexible than the old stuff.

Looks like generic stuff. Looks like what you can find in some RST and Oxford kit. It’ll be fine. It’s not going to save you if you hit a tree at 100mph but I think you can reasonably expect it to do its job.

Rukka isn’t all that either. Most of the money is margin for the distributor and retailer.

The price (pre discount) is in the ballpark for similar armour sold by sportbikeshop so there is nothing I'm seen to worry me, and any armour is better than no armour.
It's eBay though so there is always the risk of fakes - caveat emporium and all that.

It may be more expensive than other brands that do the job but when I took a look with a no limit budget I could t find anything that anyone said was better and I looked at a lot of bespoke too but couldnt guarantee it to be better

My question relates to whether Ghost Bikes and their own brand are trustworthy

That something claims to be made in Pakistan rather than China really doesn't help

As with a lot of lower end bike stuff, it’s a case of badge engineering. It’ll be the same as a lot of other brands stuff, just a specific shape to make it “ghost bikes” rather than “Oxford” etc.

It’ll be fine.

I always get the D30 stuff because it vents well and is squishy where it needs to be.
