How does it compare to a modern bike? Handling, power delivery etc?

Lucky chap!

It was a shame Cadwell and Donington clashed, Donington won as it’s closer.

Those things were monsters back in the day and if i remember rightly, Superbike magazine did an article back in the early 80's maybe, could have been late 70's even, about some loony who had one made road legal eek

One was raced at either Le Mans or the Bol d'or back in the day. A rudimentary kickstart was fitted to the dry clutch to satisfy the rules on not needing outside assistance for starting and it lasted about 20 hours before finally expiring.

A certain J Dunlop won on the IoM on a TZ using a very oversized fuel tank as well.

As they were built when the older generation of rider preferred right foot gear changes and the younger riders wanted to change with the left foot the gear selector shaft ran through the entire crank case protruding from each side.

I'd love to try one in a modern rolling chassis with decent suspension, brakes etc.

We won't mention the TZ750 flat tracker that Mr K Roberts once rode, even he said it needed to be banned!

A friend of mine has a brace of tz’s. A 750 and a 500. He mainly uses the 750 and does many of the main events in the uk for the historic stuff. He estimates that overall throughout the year it costs him about £400 a lap after everything’s been taken into account.
It’s not a cheap game but he loves it and admits he’s very lucky to be in a position to ride these things.
