Hi guys - following on from my post a few weeks back having taken collection of my new MT07, I was giving it a good clean and coating of XCP rust blocker as I know these can start to rust if left to the elements.

Anyway, I’ve noticed that already there is some (incredibly minor) but nevertheless present rust around the frame welds. I’ve taken a picture to show what I mean but there are several spots like this on the bike.

Again appreciate that is very minor at this stage but just wanted to know if this is essentially normal, is it something that I should be doing something with to prevent it getting worse or should I be speaking to the dealer?

Unacceptable on a brand new bike imo and only going to get worse. No harm in informing the dealer about it, sooner the better, and seeing what they say.

On a brand new bike that is unacceptable, I'd defeinly photo and show the dealership. Also, it may just be because I'm not overly familiar with how Yamahas come new from the factory, but IMO those are some horribly done welds and I'd reject solely on that!

What crack? I think it might just be the radiator housing behind.

Appalling welds and Appalling finish.

What blindarse dealer signed this off on PDI?

The paint will very soon start lifting even more in that area.

I'm not usually one to moan about condition but on a new bike that's ludicrously poor.

I spotted that on the right of the picture, looks like its not been welded properly, i wouldnt be happy with that.

Agree on the weld part. As we're making a list, if that is a hole in a tube should it have a rubber grommet to stop water getting in?

Tenere 700's have the same issues. Not much a dealer can do about it, an identical one fresh out of a crate will be the same. Keep it doused in ACF50/Beoshield/Dinitrol SC / Xcf

Where are you talking about? Here’s a pic from a different angle if it helps?

No they are all like that. Think it’s to let moisture out?

Impressive that the welder managed to do that using his feet rather than his hands.

It actually looks like a weld I would do and be massively proud of ,but it does not look like a weld made on a production line with an automated process.
Are there other similar examples on the bike ?

Not just Yamaha.

Dobles simply said "they're all like that"

To be fair to them though, Paul accepted the rejection without arguement.

Those welds look like I did them with a stick welder, I would be very unimpressed to find that on a new Japanese bike.

It looks like the intersecting tube is straight cut instead of curved and they've tried to fill the gap with weld.

How long after purchase was that?

I spotted it a couple of days after they delivered it to me during Covid.

It looked like the paint simply didnt stick to the welded bits.
