I've got piper cross pod filters on my xjr13. Just wondering if there is a consensus on the best way to clean and re oil them (have to confess they keep slipping my mind when servicing so are well overdue).

Cheers

Brake cleaner works well, then just let them dry.
A friend of mine just used wd40 as he thought the std oil was a bit thick

ATF is a popular reoiling option on K&N filters. Apply it lightly.

I use a water soluble degreaser like bilt hamber HD. Obviously let it dry throughly before oiling.

You can get a k and n clean and re oil kit. Halfords or Amazon stock them.
Are you running carbs on your XJR, if so did you have to reset them for the pod filters? How does it run?

I ended up finding the piperX kit for £12 on Amazon.

Yeah, it's on carbs. The pods were already on and carbs jetted to suit. Have recently had them cleaned and bike on Dyno as they were really cruddy (my attempt at cleaning and replacing fiat needles n seats wasn't good enough).

I use compressed air to get all the bits out, then re-oil with K&N filter oil or similar.

Thanks for reply.
How does it run on pods, any other mods and what bhp / torque was it making on dyno?
I want to run them on mine along with the enlarged exhaust mod.

It ran fine, especially considering the state of the float needles and seats in the carbs. Then I cleaned them and swapped/cut up the exhaust for something much shorter and free flowing - went very lean. It's got the 36Y carb rubbers and a 4 degree ignition advancer on it. Supposed to have had head work done by a guy soon after I bought it, but it only made 117bhp (reminds me I've not got a torque graph, might drop him a message to see what it made). Some loss probably due to the exhaust I would guess, a bit too open despite DB killers. But have a feeling the initial "tuner" did fk all and I effectively stole my money (have since heard other similar stories about him - at least my bike ran right after he replaced the head). Bob Grant racing did the carbs and dyno, great people to deal with.

This is how it looked when I bought it a few years ago, exhaust now cut and twin slashcuts welded on just behind the front door peg hangers (plus lowered a bit and alleged head work). Doesn't look much like a standard bike.

That’s certainly different. I’ve got the 5 degree advance. Going to do the exhaust mod and 36ys and pod filters.
Then it’s dyno time. Sadly that guy you use is too far away. And holeshot racing that I’ve used in the past went to Northern Ireland. So will have to find someone in West Yorkshire.
Is that 117 bhp at the rear wheel or at the crank?

Just use Pipercross's own cleaner and special filter oil. Rinse with cleaner first, let it dry naturally, and then spray a light layer of oil, don't spray too much.

my guess is back wheel. Need to give the guys a shout at some point to see if they have a torque file so will ask
