Why do deliveroo and other food app scooter folk ride along with their feet dangling just off the ground and not on the scooter? Is this part of the CBT test now?

Probably using someone else’s CBT and almost definitely not had any proper training.

The ones my way fall in to two categories slow foot draggers or face glued to phone whilst 2 microns off your rear bumper.

The only protective gear worn is normally an open face helmet of questionable origin.

To be fair some do seem to ride ok but these seem to be the exception rather than the rule

The thing I cant understand is why its permissible to have people who ride scooty/motorbikes as a job that are still "learners" and dont hold a full licence.

You wouldnt get into a taxi with an L plate. I know its a bit different because its power related but as a lot of 125s can do 65-70mph you can still get yourself into trouble.

Imo the whole bike licensing thing needs an overhaul.

Sliders and white socks seem to be the main safety gear in London.

Hire or reward on L plates is crazy. How do they get insurance?

There's a petition to get this looked at. Only a few sigs though...

I've always thought this must be the explanation, or they are worried about falling off. It pre-dates Deliveroo etc.

Some ride incredibly slowly. Got stuck behind one doing <20 in a 30 the other day.

My old instructor, who has a steady income from repeat CBTs says that most of his clients hail from Brazil and are used to terrible roads. They have learned to ride like that and can’t seem to unlearn it.

They do my head in.
Undertake, then slow up to read their map or chill along on face time.
Absolutely no idea.

The food delivery apps partner with companies (e.g. Zego, but there are many others) who specialise in pay as you go insurance for people who ride on L plates delivering food.
I think it was about £4/hour last time I looked.

Most of the delivery nobs around Bristol need to learn how to ride. Why I never use these ordering services. Never

I mean, I almost always hated them other ones, from days I rode one late 90's (amongst real bikes later on)
These days, most of them on the roads are Brazilian ("Portuguese") and North African descent, hence, they ride, how they know, representative whatever their culture is.... kinda non-PC talk, including my m8 getting new Galaxy Z-fold nicked from his hands in Croydon ~x3 years ago of a scooter... naturally looked down on the lot least to say.

ANW
Still dealing with insurance- lawyers- wan4ers TBF, since my missuses Merc gotten T-boned in March near Woking by a pi4ey in a Transit. Big, in his 40's reversed, got out, checked on his van, got back in and drove off. Silly cow was in shock, didn't take no pictures, didn't even write down anything, due to stress, shock blah, blah... one of them scooterists, pulled over, figured out what happened, chased, followed him first to Bagshot, then to other side of Bracknell took pictures, reg etc, drove back, given all details to her, talked to pigs, so now it's likely she'll get money for, only because of that lad on a scooter, out of at least 20 cars, bikes, scooters, anyone local didn't give a flying fvck, only some "dodgy" scooterist on delivery run done well by her and me.

"Swings and roundabouts" lads, I've got newly developed respect for them in general.

I read this and initially though it was an extract from some sort of 2020's counterculture re-imagining of J.D Salinger's classic "Catcher In the Rye".

I got all nostalgic and literary for a while there.

Excellent post. Made my day. Thank you.
