SWMBO says there is a 2 bike limit, currently have:

2018 Panigale V4S, 10k miles, got it for my 40th birthday nearly 2 years ago. Probably ridden it the most since I got it. Lovely thing, pretty epic and actually more comfortable than my other bike.

2005 Fireblade, 7k miles, bought it 13 years ago and hardly use it (clearly), Repsol colours. Saw it on a TV show, loved it and probably got my license to get one. Late getting it out this season, just MOT’d and had a ride, within an hour my toes are numb and my backside is sore. But it’s lovely to own.

Recently had a loan of a Monster and had great fun on it which got me thinking about what I might be missing out on, I have often thought about getting something a bit more comfortable for touring (maybe a VFR1200 or H2 SX) and actually do some proper miles as most of my riding is maybe at most a couple of hours with a stop and not that far from home.

I’m not getting any younger, should I bite the bullet, let something go and replace it? and if so.. with what?

Any bike you ride has to be better than one you don't.

As for the replacement, it has to be an H2 SX. biggrin

Sell the blade, get a CRF300L.

I only started riding off road 2-3 years after starting on road. Off road (if you can do it near you) is just so much fun, and you don't have to worry about other idiots on the road.

It may or may not be for you, but I feel like everyone who rides should try it, it's a game changer.

Wait.

With superbike factory going under there should be some mega deals on used bikes shortly.

2 sportsbikes, one of which you don't ride seems a bit pointless.
If you have had fun on the monster looook at one of those, or a streetfighter/MT10

Get a different wife who is more understanding to your needs. Not sure why she should impose a 2 bike limit. confused

Or, if you want to the stick with the one you have, impose a 6 pair shoe limit and see what she thinks.

Sports tourers and Euro-touring are where it's at for me right now, some of the roads and scenery are epic, and they've got space.

I rode sports bikes for 30+ years, trackdays + touring Europe etc. In the end they're meant for a specific purpose and therefore quite compromised for many use cases (becoming even more focussed). I like having an all-rounder now and that's the one that gets all my mileage now and my sports bike (which is a legend!) gets very little usage - just when I want the kind of ride it provides.

All-rounders are so good now you really don't lose out on anything. I have a GS1300 which I know many won't like but there are so many alternatives across dual-sports and sports touring etc. Do it and it'll probably transform how you ride - it'll be a mode of transport that takes you far and wide as opposed to a toy you use occasionally when it's warm/dry and local on repeatedly ridden roads.
