I spent three weeks around Tremp / La Pobla doing university fieldwork in the last week of September and early October weeks. Warm in the middle of the day, but the sun didn't rise until 9am and it was very cold before the sun came up. In the last week we were there it snowed. This, according to the locals, was not uncommon.

The roads are epic but you are planning for too late in the year.

Can't remember about the weather, but a mate used to go to the Picos d'Europa around this time of the year and he had some horrendous ferry journeys across the Bay of Biscay which put me off completely! We went in May last year and that was bad enough!

I did the Picos at the end of March last year.

First go on the San glorio was utterly horrendous - i was quite lucky not to be killed on one of the other passes where the wind and fog was so bad. Visibility was about 15ft at one point.

A few days later when I did it again there was glorious sunshine and mild weather.....

Both days the roads were practically deserted - it was fantastic.

I don't understand why people want to go in the busier seasons when it's hot as hell and full of other people.

I'd say go for it. Just be prepared clothing wise.

I spent a lot of time there years ago , outlaws had a house there .
The most common phrase any local would say at any time of year was how unusual the weather was for the time of year.

It really does change a lot , you can get cold nights, warm at midday and wet in afternoon, followed by fog and then sunshine at that time of year.
It's hot there now it will be quite different later in the year , however it's unusual that it sets in for more than a couple of days .

It's a really changeable place for weather.

I have sunbathed in March, had two weeks overcast in August and spring like in November. One Christmas our relatives ate lunch outside at 20 degrees, to be snowed on the next day.

I don't think I have helped have I .

Whilst i love the ferry journey from Dover to Calais, the thought of the long crossing to Santander etc is one i will never be partaking of !
Can understand re not wanting to ride a small bike / trail bike down through France, due to time constraints etc, but i use van & trailer.
