I'm new to this forum, but not Pistonheads or biking. I'm looking for somewhere recommended to have an engine stripped on my T509 Speed Tripple near or in Milton Keynes. I've had it four years and always dealer serviced. Crank gasket has sprung a small leak and they want £700 labour to take it out and replace it, on top of the service, which is a big one, so we're looking at well over £1000 ..... it's only worth £3,500. So anyone got anywhere they can recommend for sensible prices ? Any help would be hugely welcome.

Can't offer any advice i'm afraid, but have you looked on www.t595.net ? You should get an answer there.

This isn't very local, but when it comes to bike engineering I'd never hesitate to recommend these guys. Have a trawl though their website, you may find that you come up with a few, um, useful additions that could be bolted on at the same time...

If the engine is being stripped to the crank, then most of the servicing will be done as part of the rebuild, which will have to include valve clearances, new oil and filter, plugs etc, so the normal servicing costs of the engine should be deducted from the main job itself.

The remainder of the service on the cycle parts shouldn't take more than a couple of hours at the most, so unless you don't trust them, I would go and ask them for a re-quote.

Thanks for the suggestions.... I'll go back to them and suggest it's one job. The thought had crossed my mind that doing it as a two stage job was totally pointless, but it still works out at £45 an hour labour charges. Maybe I should just p/x it against a new one, but then some other poor sod's going to buy it.

Good advice, but it took me the best part of a day to get down to the crank - and no I hadn't touched a drop...

Expect big labour, I'm reckoning around £1100 total from some - MUCH lower from shops with good facilities & mechanics.
I'll have an ask round for you...
