I am planning a trip to the Portuguese motoGP next year, cos this years race was so good and I have a couple of friends in Portugal who I could meet up with. I was going to get the ferry to Santander and then ride down to Estoril. As Santander is close to the Pyrenees I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to go and try out some mountain roads for the first time. Does anyone know if the weather is too bad in April for enjoyable riding, or is it a matter of just not going too high an altitude to avoid the (very) late snows?

I need to plan now to get tickets for the MotoGP, which is April 13th next year. I am also not sure if I should just go for race day or go for the whole weekend, as I have never been to a international race before.

All advice gratefully received.

I picked up a flyer too biggrin. The company only offer a minimum 3 night stay, hence the should I go for race day or the whole weekend question. However it sounds like alot of fun with lots of like minded souls. Not sure about the extra money though.

If PH doesn't offer any opinions I'll have to make a decision myself yikes

I've gone from France to Spain on a bike in March and December but not higher than 1200 m. If you stick to the roads that cross the border near one of the coasts you'll be fine but you really do not want to go somewhere where you might get stuck or too cold on a bike. Anyway, you don't need to go very high to get great roads - if you have the time just get off the motorway almost anywhere in Spain and you'll have a lot of fun.
