I have finally decided it is time to do my Motorbike test (although it'll be when I get back from Australia now, so 2006!) and I am looking at a first bike to go for. I like the look and riding position and performance of the motocross type of bike but was wondering if it is a realistic first bike? Also what sort of market is there out there for such bikes? Any thoughts welcomed!

Supermoto is what you need! Motocross with road tyres. First factory producet supermoto was the Yam 250, but there are lots these days.

I would Recomend the Yamaha WR 250F/450F both great bikes to supermoto probaly best to start with the 250 to gain confidence on if its your first bike and then move up to the 450 at a later stage.

I looked into getting one of these for the winter and you can always swap the wheels and do some off road if you fancy it.

If you do put a true crosser on the road, don't do as I did and forget that they run a total loss coolant system

you just want the look and riding position, but for a road bike? get a honda dominator or the new honda fmx650 for a mor supermoto look (but not really extreme performance)

I've got a Suzuki DRZ400, which is brilliant.
Thoroughly recommended, and cheap at £3795 new.

It's possibly more fun than my GSX-R750 and the M5 put together!!
