Now, I'm 21 next week, looking to get a bike at some point in the next 8 to 12 months, having done my DAS first. I'm looking at a Suzuki SV650S, as a blend of pace, user-friendliness etc. Now, I've just got my first quote for insuring the bike.

Wait for it

£2031!! I really do hope I can get it (alot) cheaper than that. If my insurace is that much, I'll have to get a car instead

Got my SV down to £400 with silly excess, £480 odd with normal. I'm 23 and have just passed (or will have just passed when I insure it) my test.

I had a quote for a Ducati 749 as my first bike at £3,500!!

What I find strange is that I can insure a GSX R 600 for less than I can my Scooby (Experience in fast cars = 12years, Experience on fast bikes = 0).... Go figure!

DJ - is that fully comp? Cos bike insurance is really loaded for the theft part...

If you get something cheap and cheerful - even an early CBR600 for under a grand, and go Third party only until you get some NCB... (Buy some decent security for it though!)

I know the tempatation is to get something shiny but everyone drops their first bike...

Hi,

Try a company called Westhill Direct.I'm guessing from all the accents when you ring up they are based in Essex.I've used them for years and thier premiums are dirt cheap 0870 7947940.I've never had too find out what there claims procedures are like though "Thankfully!".......Regards Jez
PS checkout my HAYABUSA LOTUS 7 advert in kit cars & you may decide to stick to 4 wheels ;0)

Also try Bikesure - I paid £350 TPFT on a 600cc Bandit when I passed my test, and now pay £725 TPFT on my ZX7R - expensive, but most places wouldn't insure me on it at all (23yo, held a bike license for 1 year).

That full coverage? I ran a quote on a 748 with all but collision a while back and it was something like 75 dollars a month. Way lower then I thought. I know what you mean about the car/bike thing, a 240hp not-especially-fast mid ninties mustang is in the reigon of 600 a month for me, and I'm infintely more capable of handling that then the bike.

Hello, new(ish) to biking and been looking for good quotes, with not much luck until I stumbled upon this post's recommendation for www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk

That pretty much halved my previous best quote. Now I know I'm a quite a paranoid person, but does anyone have any experience (good or bad) being insured by them?

Any info would be helpful - Obviously I dont want to pay a grand in insurance to find out if I try to claim it's worthless!

By the way the bike in question is an '05 ZX-6R, a totally stupid 1st big bike, but after riding it, I just knew I had to have it what a machine!!!

Anyway, thanks in advance.

I use them and they beat everyone hands down. I was a bit worried about them being new but they are advertising on some bike forums and also had a mention in some of the bike mags. I also spoke to someone on the phone about a couple of things.
They seem to be here to stay although wether next years premiums will be as cheap, who knows.
