Chiggee and Carpuride, what's the point?
Discussion
Genuine question as these keep advertising to me and, frankly, look quite good but I'm struggling to see the actual benefit over simply using my phone. Would appreciate any thoughts if you're using one or the other.
I have a BMW and have my iphone clipped in a quad lock on the bars above the headstock. I use it for the radio/music, very occasional calls and for SatNav or Google Maps, all Bluetooth'd in to my Shoei GT Air. All works great. But I like the way the Ghiggee and Carpuride slot in to the BMW SatNav cradle which then charges them and enables you to use the magic wheel on the handlebar. But that appears to be the only advantage over using the phone - am I missing something (my bike has tyre pressure sensors and blind spot monitors and I don't want to fit cameras so I wouldn't need any of those features). Quite like the idea of a larger, properly mounted screen but is that all I get £300+?

The way they show big chunky icons, split screen if you want it. Don’t you use CarPlay in a car?
Yes, same as the bike, radio/music, google maps the occasional call. I've got very used to using Siri when on the bike - my OH likes to know I'm not dead so when I arrive at work I use Siri to send a What's App. I use it for navigation (although that then has to be Apple maps) and for choosing music etc. In the car I'm more likely to just select on the screenBecause your phone can stay safely in yoiur pocket avoiding the vibrations that 'can' kill a phones camera system, Also I used to use Quadlock but have now got a Carpuride and it's easier to use than the phone with gloves on. Works for me an d as above I use car play in the car so why not?
I can see the point of them if they run Waze.
I got a new hand me down mobile phone in the autumn. It's from 2017. It seems the version of Android it runs isn't the latest and therefore can't run the latest version of Waze.
I don't really mobile phone. I have a twenty year old mobile phone with buttons. I used WAP on it a couple of times around 2009.

Just as a side note, the vibration only seems to affect iphones. I have an Android phone and have done thousands of miles with it with no ill affect.
I've been using Ultimate Addons and Quad Lock with an iPhone since probably 2010. Daily commute of 60 miles, many European trips. Literally tens of thousands of miles and no issues with any of the phones - 4S to 15. Some folks have obviously been unluckyI'm just about to get a used Carupride from a friend, I've been using Calimoto on my Android phone, the screen is too small and Android doesn't handle going back to nav after a call has come through. Trying to prod the phone screen on the go is then a nightmare so a dedicated unit is what I want.
As others have said camera's can be wrecked as well although not experienced this myself.
My friend used it on his BMW for almost a year and loved it but wants to upgrade to the BMW wheel integration so I'm having his old unit.
I've been put off by lack of Android auto support but I'm going to give Motobit a try. I've imported a few GPX routes so hope to see how it goes over the next couple of months once I've got it installed.

I've got a Carpuride 702, which links to my Android phone and uses Android Auto.
It's much better than the phone on its own as:
1) bigger icons etc on the screen so easier to hit with winter gloves on
2) the screen stays on all the time - unless the phone is doing navigation it shuts the screen off after 60 seconds.
3) When the phone goes into "sleep", i can't unlock it with gloves on.
4) i like having the split screen - so navigation on one side, music app on the other.
If you are thinking of getting a Carpuride 702 (which clips straight into the BMW nav mount) let me know as i've got a link for a discount you can have.

Check as I don't think calimoto works though the carpuride and android auto.As others have said camera's can be wrecked as well although not experienced this myself.

My mate couldn't get it to work so sold me the unit.
The quad lock cases are big and bulky and I don't want that in my pocket when I'm not on the bike.
It's not unknown for knobheads on pushbikes to try to take your phone off of the bars when you're sitting at lights in that there London.
My carpuride works way better with my gloves than a phone.
It cost less than my phone so I'm less worried about it getting wet/broken.
I would have to buy a new case every time that I changed my phone. They don't even make a case for my wife's Moto razr so her bar mount is now useless.
The only way I would consider strapping my phone to the bars is if I had a few bikes that I swapped between regularly.

Inspired by this thread and a TMF video I saw a few months back - aided and abetted by an eBay account balance I forgot I had, I've ordered an Aoocci C6 pro. I'm getting ready for a European mini-odyssey so I'm collecting kit to make it a more pleasant experience than my last long Euro trip.
My phone went flat in the pissing rain in South Eastern France and I had to stand under the awning of a supermarket with all the smokers, trying to charge my phone from a charge pack to get enough battery to find my airbnb. Not the most fun after a long day in the saddle! I

Finally got the unit fitted today - I'm s
t at getting stuff done. I haven't fully explored what it can do but it paired with my phone instantly and the screen is better than my phone for Google maps. Gonna Try Waze and Calimoto at the weekend. Mine came with front and rear cameras and they seem to be excellent picture quality.

Congrats. Love to hear more about it when you've had a play around
I recently fitted a CarPuride for a 3000 mile tour across France, Switzerland and Italy, including through heavy rain and 40 degree heat.
It worked really well - I use Waze on an iPhone. 5G coverage in Europe is excellent (Surrey? Not so much), and having the big 7" screen (mounted on the BMW cradle on a R1250R) just below the dash worked well. Visibility was good in bright sunlight, much better than trying to see the route etc on an iPhone, which I generally had in a tank bag. So much of our tour (hotel bookings, tickets, money etc. etc.) depended on the phone, that losing or dropping it would really have put a huge downer on the holiday.
Touch screen worked fine with the right gloves, and it kept going when it was baking hot, the iPhone had some problems when I was trying to charge it.
The only issues was that I'd switch the bike on and the CarPuride would come to life, only to drop the link when I pressed the 'Start' button. Sometimes it took a minute or two to re-establish the CarPlay connection.
Mine doesn't work with the Wonderwheel, but I have no need for the additional functions. For the £150 I paid it was very worthwhile.

Another recent Carpuride user, brilliant thing, so much easier to use than a phone on a holder.
Mine is sat in the BMW cradle and works with the whizzy wheel, but not really utilised that as the touchscreen works just fine with gloves on.
As a Waze user it just makes so much sence, I also like the fact I just leave it permanently on the bike so don't even have to think about doing anything other than jumping on and going.
I wan't sure how I would get on but for the money they are cracking bits of kit.
