Hello everyone,

I passed my full bike test last week and looking at buying a Suzuki SV650S. Only issue is that I’m living in a flat in Milton Keynes and only have access to communication parking- I keep the car here.

Insurance is coming up at £1000+ with third party fire and theft, immobiliser, tracker, chains and disk lock. Although they don’t make a huge difference. Tried ringing up and online comparison sites. If I switch to garaged, it’s £300, if I switch to third party only, it’s £400.

There is high bike theft in the area, but does anyone know of or would consider renting out any garage/unit space. I don’t mind travelling out towards Buckingham either- as it would be a summer, weekend and the odd evening toy.

I’ve tried council garages but theirs a big waiting list, tried the local community on Facebook who aren’t interested and also various storage places like container yards but they want fuel and oil drained every time.

Any ideas are welcome! Really would love to get a bike this year and not worry about it! Cheers!

In the past, I've rented lock-up garages. Most towns have a landlord with a block or two of them.
I once also sub-let a half share in one.
I found that just by cycling around town and chatting to people.

We also bought a lock-up once. A friend has just bought one to keep a small boat in.

Your best bet for that is to ask around independent estate agents, people also advertise on gumtree or facebook.

I'm not sure insurers see lock-ups remote from the house the same as a garage at home though!

A colleague used to keep his bike at the factory where we worked, 24/7 security and in walking distance of his home at the time!

Best chance is to ask on local FB groups about garages to rent

Check the location with the insurer before committing to anything. I had a similar problem and they wouldn't do it unless the garage was in the same postcode, which seemed silly to me.
