BSA have re-launched the Bantam today it seems.

A 350cc DOHC single, 28.8bhp and £3499.

You can see why they’ve done it with the success of similar small cc machines of late.

Good luck to them. I’m a little sad it doesn’t really have any of the design cues from the original but I guess most buyers won’t have a D10 Sports in the shed like I have hehe

New one is pretty much what you expect in 2025. Hondas been doing well with a sober 350.
I dont think the old one has much of an image that appeals today.

Looks nice, in a retro sort of way.

I remember jumping on a D14/4 in 1970 and thinking what a torquey, rapid thing it was. How perceptions change... smile

For the full retro experience, they should have copied something German, perhaps the BMW 310. smile

Seems strange to use the name from the old model then, if they're not going to play on that history?

BSA has form; the new Goldstar is one of the most pastiche of all the modern retros.

350cc single? It should be called the B40, the despatch rider's favourite.

Looks very similar to Royal Enfield's Hunter 350, but sadly a couple of years too late. BSA seems to be playing catch up with the rest of the market and that won't help with sales.

I agree with both of your points.

I suspect they didn't want to do that as the new one wouldn't be much quicker than the B40.

The B40 was 21bhp and about 155kg, the new Bantam is 28bhp and 185kg...

Shame it's not in the green/white with a picture of a Bantam on the tank. How long until someone paints one...it'll be pretty quick I think.

It looks OK, but I struggle to see the market in the UK given they aren't as established as Enfield or Triumph and it doesn't bring anything different. I guess we're not their main market though.

They're a lot cheaper than the Triumph; I think the 400 Triumph is nearer £5500 than £3500? Even the Enfield's over £4k from what I can see, so I assume they're planning to undercut the opposition.

I agree about the colours. I guess they'll likely follow along with things like the offroader and sports one...

Looks very much like the Jawa 42FJ which it is based on!

The same way they managed to put it up for sale at £3.5k......

I'm sure I read last night that they were from the same manufacturer the "Jawa" 350 is from?

Either way it's a fairly considerable jump from the anemic 20 you get from the Honda and RE.

Hunter is £3899, so only about £400 more and Triumphs can be considered as a premium product and price reflects that. More importantly Bantam is yet to be available to buy, for now you can only registered your interest which wont help them establishing that brand on the very competitive market.

It worked a bit with Gold Star, but that hype was fuelled by older folks who were trying to relieve they youth. I doubt the same strategy will work with Bantam.

Pre-order is not the same as turning up at the dealership and getting your bike straight away. September delivery is between 4-8 weeks of waiting time.

A lot of the older bikers I know are going for something similar to this.

Nippy enough to enjoy but more importantly light.
