Not seen it mentioned since it was discussed on the Eicma thread but as the reviews are starting to come out thought it deserved its own thread.

With the price undercutting the rest of the competition it will no doubt be a top seller in its class, if not the best seller
Would be putting a deposit down myself if I wasn't too old and broken to ride bikes anymore

Was between the Hornet SP & CB1000F at the NEC today and both appealed more than this,

Looked good value but completely disinterested in this machine, Thought there was cheaper (chinese) or more attractive European/Jap/US options.

Moto Guzzi Stelvio or HD Pan-America for me ..... Sorry

Interested enough that I'll get a test ride, not rushing out to put a deposit down when it's so similar in concept and execution to the Suzuki GX+ available for a similar price. Trying to work out why the BMW XR is worth 50% more, not wholly convinced by that. PanAM ST is interesting if it's a little more cohesive than the Special, and the reliability is fixed now?

It's great to see another decent sport tourer option and the spec./price looks very interesting. The fact that Honda are getting back into the sport touring arena with a competitive option is good news.

Funnily enough I quite fancied a CBF1000 at launch but the Honda dealer wasn't interested in even talking to me. I've not considered setting foot inside their premises until now. Not that I hold a grudge... smile

No doubt they needed something to fill that gap in their lineup, but sat between the Hornet SP and the CB1000F at the bike show, both at roughly the same price point, it looked a bit generic.

Can't say I'm a fan of any of the sit up and beg touring bikes though. They're not "off road" enough to be off roaders, they're not "sporty" enough to be sporty, and they're not "touring bikes" enough to be touring bikes. Lots of people seem to like them so no doubt it will be a good seller. Tbh the whole Honda range looked very competitive in price and quality.

I ran one for a few years, including taking it to Italy, the Isle of Man, working as an instructor, amongst other things.

It was pretty thirsty for the performance - not much better than the FireBlade I have now which has 50%more power. It was fast enough but the weight of the thing meant that fast riding was involving because the engine could write cheques the brakes and suspension struggled to cash.

On first glance I thought these looked good but then i saw the upturned nose like some of the other Jap bikes and was put off. I don’t think this, the Tracer 9 or the GX are pretty bikes. The BMW offerings are, but I always think the cockpits look a bit dull. Not sure if this can tempt me away from a big ADV.

The cb1000 sp or F version are both on my shortlist for getting a new bike next year - I hate bikes that guzzle oil & assumed the Honda would not use any like all the other Japanese bikes I have owned.

I hadnt heard about it until someone here mentioned it. Doing a bit of Googling and there are a LOT of comments about how much it's using. Between 500-1000ml per 1000 miles came up more than a few times.

Even the MCN review mentions the oil consumption, so it might not be a fault, just a feature of the engine. Surprising though, Honda engines usually use very little.

You’ve got to wonder how such an oil-thirsty (relatively speaking) achieves Euro5 standards. I believe one of the reasons (alongside high revs/valve overlap etc) was just that: less blow-by with two cylinders and thus less hydrocarbons.

F1 teams used to do sneaky oil burning to increase the power so its probably good ,like a 2 stroke lol.
If I fancied a fully kitted up tourer/everything else bike I would look at the cb1000gt.
At least honda get the stress they will be under from Chinese bikes and try to offer something close to the price but with
brand appeal.
Ducati,BMW etc have got the too much money and want a toy brigade locked in.

Think it looks pretty decent in a restrained sort of way. I will be having a new 'big bike' next year and am pondering going back to a road sports tourer from the ADV world. This will surely be on my test ride short list.
