I don't know if anyone is following this auction today, lots of the prices are insane! The auction house certainly did a good job of advertising it

I saw some of that - wtf is going on? Couple of CR250Rs for insane money.

I did like the micro-Africa Twin though.

I was interested in one of the later lots and listened in to the whole auction.

Crazy prices for mats and stands and while some of the smaller bikes were being auctioned I found the same online for a lot less.

I was looking at the NSR50 which went for about the right money, but some of the prices of the others silly

The bids there were so off the wall that I’ve got to question the legitimacy of that auction - money laundering, but done by someone who simply didn’t realise how viral this has gone?

Or someone setting up fake accounts and just screwing things up for sts and giggles?

The prices were insane.

I was watching the Baja monkey and africa twin monkey and the EZ90 models. They went for big money but they usually tend to, but this was almost double what they usually fetch.

Many peeps have mentioned money laundering but how exactly would that work? Buy high with dirty money and sell at a loss but get clean money back. Only if they were paying cash, or what? Can you pay in cash at auction?

Imagine I need to pay you for something dodgy.

You have this collection of bikes.

I go to the auction with someone else, and between us we bid up the lots.

You get paid in clean money via the auction house.

I have a load of crap that I then have to move, but that's a relatively small problem.

I don't think any auction house takes cash these days.

Not as mad as this auction, but the recent liquidation sale of assets of a local main bike dealer produced some crazy results. I think people get carried away when bidding online and forget the fees. I was interested in a Triumph Tiger 800 but was amazed when it sold for more than retail, as did all the other bikes. Crazy, especially given there was obviously no warranty.

Thank you for the explanation.
