I have a 2026 C125R that is on 450 miles and I understand its first service is at 600 miles.
Can anyone tell me if it has to go back to Honda with regards to the warranty?
Its a bit of a grey area, I would prefer to just service it myself as i enjoy it and my nearest Honda dealer is an hour away so a day off needed etc.
If a local Vat registered business could do it that would be an option.

Honda does state that it has to be carried out by a a "Honda Authorised Dealer" or "Authorised Honda Service Centre" for the bike to be covered under warranty.

Even states needs to use Honda Pro Oil...

This doesn't count for recall work though.

I think a few other manufacturers are the same, and the same rules for cars being serviced at a VAT registered garage don't apply to motorcycles.

Another point to note is that Honda will extend the warranty up to six years if you have the annual service done at a dealer - could be useful when it comes to resale.

That first service isn't just an oil change, there is a lot of checking of things that might have loosened off since the bike was assembled, it used to be included in the purchase price but mostly that has been dropped now so the ticket price can be a bit less.

Legally your motorcycle warranty stipulates servicing has to be undertaken by a main dealer (the law relating to cars is different), you don't have a choice unfortunately. Ring up your dealer, get a quote and ask what gets done for that.

Fair enough, will work out a way to get it to the dealer when needed.

They quoted me apx £250 for the first service when I was looking at buying a cb600rr so i can fully understand why you want to do it yourself , assuming a 125 is that price , I thought bloody hell that’s a rip off , wife said how much !!
How Honda justify that when my z900 & zx4rr were / are £99 I don’t know , pure profiteering.

I'd only do it for the warranty or resale. If you don't care about those just do it yourself. I struggle to believe there is much nut/bolt checking to worry about beyond routine service stuff, e.g. throttle/clutch/chain play.

The last two bikes I've bought new I've negotiated the first service for free, as it's something they can bend on rather than the MSRP.

Anyone know why this isn't the case? Until I owned a relatively new bike I had just assumed that the law would apply to "all vehicles", only to be told by the dealer the servicing had to be done by them to maintain the warranty.
