Morning all,

My son is at his first TT until Thursday next week. After a faultless trip up from Horsham area and rides over the Mountain his bike threw a real wobbly this morning. It is an Aprilia Tuono 660 '22 reg bought new and recently derestricted after he passed his A licence a month ago.
Faults are:

Poor idle, hunting between <1k and 4k

Dash and hazards flashing

Red warning triangle

"urgent service alarm" message

Any load in 1st gear engine cuts out

The bike did apparently get very wet on Wednesday night.

Son has made contact with No Limits garage in Douglas (Jake?) who can see the bike on Monday and Paul Dedman (?) in Ramsey, who is apparently an Aprilia expert, but he can't look at the bike 'till Tuesday.

I have told him to check all the simple things for bad connection such as kill, clutch and sidestand switches, although I think a simple switch fault causing these symptoms is unlikely. I have also told him to try a battery disconnect for 15 mins. That's all I can think of without seeing the bike and putting a code reader on it. I am thinking this could be a throttle system fault.

If the bike cannot be fixed by Thursday, is there a van hire company on the island that might do a one way hire and what are the chances of getting a ferry ticket?

I would appreciate any thoughts from the IOM regulars and Aprilia experts that might enable my son and bike to get home as originally planned.

Ta.

From the aprilia forum, it seems the A2 restriction was purely ecu software mapping, so the advice about looking for the obvious and the battery disconnect is the correct diy approach.

The aprilia guy in Ramsey would be the next step, and if all else fails, arrange to store the bike there till the TT is over and take a hired van over when ferry tickets are available again.

If it can’t be fixed I think his best bet is to fly home and get the bike transported by a man with a van. This will be a much easier task than hiring a van and probably considerably cheaper.

If it can't be fixed, you/he may well be able to find someone who's out there now who will bring it back. Try posting on the various FB groups.

I'd have thought there would be someone in the paddock who at least has a suitable code reader - he could try asking around.

The torrential rain element could be a red herring but as he accessed/pulled the battery and checked everything, all wiring is not damp under the seat etc?

Try a different battery if practical too.

All connectors separated, dried and reconnected

There must be lots of vans and trucks coming off the island next weekend with space for a bike . I think the social media route is the best way to try and connect with someone who will help .

Paul Dedman is good and does all my servicing for decades. Let him have a look Manx see what he says.

Hiring a van to take one way back to the UK is a non starter but there must be loads of vans going back with space in them later in the week. As above asking on one of the TT groups is a good shout.

Alternatively there are local shipping companies who will transport it back to the UK for much less than the cost of a van and ferry ticket, and for much less hassle.

Hopefully it will be sorted if Paul can have a look and you don’t have the hassle of getting it back.

Thank you all for your good advice and suggestions.

The bike is now with the Douglas garage and we will look for transport if it cannot be fixed.

Once again, my son really appreciates your input.
