Hi all, I've been lurking in the background for a while as the Chim has has to sit around for the past 8 months or so, I've sorted my priorities and now its time to get the car on the road again, last time it was used the steering rack gushed all it's fluids out, somewhere near the top where the pinion goes in I think, any way I can't actually remember if I put a post up regarding it before, I can't see anything... Any way what I am seeing is varying opinions as to the difficulty of the job, as usual no regular garage want's to work on it, believe me I've been asking and rather not have the expense of trailering it to TVRSW in Wellington so may be forced into tacking it myself, I found this while searching https://brookbanks.net/tvrrackremoval/ and thought that seems doable for an average jo like me, but after a AI search, that says it's a fiddly pain in the arse, then I come across a post on year from 2010 I think and it said the Y piece doesn't need to come out, (like the Brookbanks instructions say) and that it simply slides out the passenger side.. Bare in mind im no where near even an amateur mechanic level, but quite handy with certain things. cheers guys

Not done a PS one but its not too bad just fiddly, the exhaust Y piece is very easy to remove so I would do that anyway personally.
Where you send it is another headache, kiley clinton engineering are the go to for most here but you will probably be talking £500 for a rebuild.
You may have a company lined up already, I have used western power steering in Hanham before without issues.

I think part of the issue where to have it refurbed. My experiences with a PAS rack have been mixed; first one done back in 2006, a well-respected local-to-me engineering garage sent it away to a 'recommended' local repairer, but between them the casing somehow became cracked. I ended up having it redone at the factory, just before they shut up shop, arranged by the predecessor of TVRSW.

I had to have it redone again last year (probably due to lack of use); I used a local TVR specialist who sent it 'up country', possibly Kiley Clinton, but can't be sure. It was away for several weeks as they were awaiting one part.

It will come out through the drivers side, but you have to remove the copper pipes. Did the job 3 times on mine as the fluid wouldn't stay in.
Once with the body off & twice with the body on.
Reverted to manual steering now for the sake of my sanity...
