Hi Folks,
The hot start issue has now become a cold start issue where the car either wont start or only just starts (the key hits the IGN point and then there is a bit of delay before the starter fires up).
The spade connector on the wire to the solenoid (the low-amp wire) is pretty loose so I want to change that out and replace the cable run as I believe it may be heat damaged and could do with a larger cross-section anyhow to reduce volt drop to the solenoid.

Was going to just change the connector but expecting the wire to be corroded and hardly any free wire to cut back to find a clean bit before it disappears into a black conduit. Removing the starter would give more access maybe.

Thinking I will probably never be able to pull it back through the conduit so probably run a whole new cable but not sure where it originates from. Presume it is the immobiliser. Does anyone know where this cable originates from please?

You need Steve D wiring diagrams. I thought they where on this forum.
I will send them via PM. Just in case i break some unknown rule.

Amazing, thanks.

Easier to just change the wire from start to finish and eliminate the connections.
A route isn't easy really, you may want to consider adding a relay to the circuit too.
I would not worry about immobilising it to eliminate future problems.

I've done this job, though I did it whilst replacing the big red cable from battery to starter motor too.

The best solution is not complex, but it does require a bit of reworking what's happening in the footwell, as well as routing through the bulkhead into the engine bay. There is already a grommet for that routing you can find by peeling some carpet back (possibly removing the centre console).

Part of the method is to use a piece of thin rope tied/strongly taped to the wire you're taking out, so you retain a way of following that route again. It goes over the gearbox bellhousing and is not really accessible if you haven't done this.

There is a good deal of information on what is required in this thread - my journey started on page 7.
