Chimaera rewiring
Discussion
Hi all,
Close to getting the body back on my restoration. Next couple of weeks.
I am considering rewiring the whole car and building a new diy loom. My motivations for doing this are:
1) Wiring was a mess from the factory anyway, as we know.
2) Had a few electrical gremlins that I could not track down.
3) The body has been living outside whilst I restored the chassis. The loom was covered up and sealed, but I am sure moisture will only have made things worse.
4) I am fitting megasquirt, so will need to hack into the loom anyway.
5) My immobiliser was dodgy. I had to bypass it before the resto, but would like to refit one. The original units look to be getting scarce?
Has anyone undertaken this before and have any advice or seriously advise against it? I am not averse to vehicle electrics but the Chimaera is probably marginally more complicated than vehicles I have wired up before.
If I fit a different alarm and immobiliser, how would I go about getting it Thatcham approved? It seems to be the case that insurers insist on professional installation, but the fitter would need to hack into my new loom ater I have built it, rather than it being neatly wired in as part of my loom as I build it up.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I would just consider how are you going to get all the cables, colours etc and also new connectors.
I can imagine it being a right pita to a diyer.
The fusebox is the biggest hurdle really from what I can see.
Maybe consider rewiring the critical circuits such as starter, fuel pump etc.
The engine loom is easy enough to do if your going aftermarket management, just 2 multi plugs to deal with.
