Hi everyone,

My Chim has recently developed a problem where the red light near the ignition stays on constantly and neither a press of the fob nor shoving the immobiliser stick thing into the recess disables it. Naturally, this happens at the most inconvenient times (just before the MOT etc grrrrrr) and its started to do this more and more often and of course it means getting into the footwell and taking off the earth lead for a bit - a right old faff...

I have already done the bypass (the one that everyone on here recommends) leaving me only with the fuel pump immobilised. To be honest i'd rather just rip the whole immobiliser out and take my chances - no one steals TVRs anyway.

I did some research and cleaning the fuses can help in some instances, but if anyone knows the easiest way to either rip the META system out or at least the likely cause of the immobiliser disengaging, it would be enormously helpful. Thanks....

Probably the internal relay sticking.

Swap to the other relay.

If that doesn't work just bypass the lot and rip it out.

So pins - 4&5 for starter relay, 7&8 for ECU fuel pump prime relay.

If that's top secret mods feel free to delete.

i bought just the immobiliser from Abacus to replace my last Chimaera one, when it would constantly play up. On my current Griff, I would get no turn over even when cold occasionally, andf then the entire car died at 50 mph. eek

I replaced both the alarm and the immobiliser with a plug in system from Abacus again, retaining the remote locking / disabling synchronicity. Not sure if they still do it, this was in May 2022.

Mine is starting to play up too, I’m assuming, with age. I understand there is a guide for removal / bypass, if someone could PM me the steps I’d be very grateful.

I can confirm they do as just did this myself a couple of weeks ago. Very simple swap and certainly diy-able.

You may already know this but the central locking is linked to tha Alarm so you need to be aware before ripping everything out.

I have had two Meta systems both failed and replaced many years ago with a much cheaper but IMHO a far better system "Sterling One" with big beefy relays and it opens the boot as well with a small mod. Not sure if they are still available though.

I have the Meta interconnect diagram if of use, most alarm/immobilisers connect the same way. Certainly a DIY job if you are happy with wiring.

YIKES! eek This can't happen to me (or anyone else).... The thought of driving around in a car which could potentially die at any minute, with potentially catastrophic consequences is just a no-no for me - this immobiliser has to go, period.

Funnily enough, the same thing happened to me years ago - I was in a MK1 Uno Turbo (seen the price of these things nowadays?) and it cut out driving through Sparkbrook in Brum (of all places) while in rush hour traffic. I had to leave it there over night - to say I was less than impressed is putting it mildly - that tuned out to be the immobiliser....

I know this is quite sensitive, but perhaps someone on here could confirm if bypassing the fuel pump is the same (Loopback) principle as the ECU, and how to tell which are the fuel pump wires (the ECU wires being identifiable due to their size....
