Hi everyone,

My Chimaera has had the battery disconnected for 6 months whilst I fit air con. Connected the battery today for the first time and one of the relays under the dash top is constantly going on/off (quickly, like 5 times per second).

I’ve taken out the relay shown in the diagram with the red arrow, and that stopped the issue, but now the indicator stalks and hazards don’t work.

If I lock or unlock the car, the indicators still flash without this relay in place.

Is it likely just a dodgy relay, or should I be looking elsewhere?

Hopefully someone on here will be able to help,

Andrew.

Listening with interest as mine does this.

I should add that it does this as soon as the battery is connected, no key in the ignition.

Alarm/immobiliser is a Meta which was installed by Carl Baker in 2019.

It may be the alarm going off, flashing the indicators, and your siren is not connected or, more likely, knackered due to water ingress where it was placed.

Once you reconnect the battery, pressing the remote fob should turn the alarm off. If it doesn't, the alarm and / or the immobiliser may be the fault. perhaps? scratchchin I note it has already been replaced, so unlikely, but possible.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll look in to this. I’d be surprised if it’s water damage to the alarm / siren as the car is dry stored and never driven in the rain, but worth me checking.

Andrew.

Only the siren, I meant, not the alarm. Where it is mounted beneath the induction pipe under the bonnet, it's gets wet just washing the car. When I accidentally set off the alarm on my car, it worked and flashed the indicators on and off, but there was no sound.

In the end, I replaced the alarm, immobiliser and siren en masse with a kit from Abacus because the immobiliser would randomly cut in!

The indicators flashing when you lock or unlock the car is because there is a separate circuit linked to the alarm/imobiliser. The direction indication is as you have sussed is via the flasher relay so the problem is there not the alarm. Check the indicator switch it could be faulty or simply that the flasher relay has failed.

Problem solved!

A simple fix, and all my fault...

I'd attached the ribbon cable to the hazard switch the wrong way round. Reversed it and everything is working again. At least I hadn't put the dash top on at this point, so it was a quick job!

Thanks for all the suggestions, and hopefully this will help others too,

Andrew.

Mine did exactly the same thing - very fast buzzing/clicking noise and it was a "dry" hazard light switch. it didn't click in and out very well - I sprayed loads of contact cleaner in both the hazard and fog light switch and repeatedly clicked both buttons, let them dry out for an hour or so, and all was well again (and both make a satisfying "click" now) - worth checking if anyone else has a similar problem....
