You might find when trying to join the two manifold pipes to Y piece very difficult to line them up. This is simply because the manifolds tend to slightly go out of shape over the years.
One solution is to use a ratchet strap around both manifolds and draw them together so the clamps go on properly.
I preferred to undo manifold bolts at the heads so loosening the manifolds enough to manipulate them onto Y piece as I feel using a ratchet strap risks cracking the manifolds as that has been known to happen in the past but using a strap is definitely easier but not necessary a very proffesional solution.

I recently did this task too.
I chose to tighten the bolts on the manifolds, then use a ratchet strap.
My thinking was to avoid having to tighten the 16 awkward manifold bolts into the engine block if under tension.
I'd rather need to replace an exhaust band clamp than rethread an engine block.

That’s not an issue. It’s not the clamps you’ll need to repair/replace but cracks in manifolds have long since been a problem.
If you undo the manifold bolts just a few mm this then gives a high degree of movement at the clamp points and once connected the bolts do up very easily. Obviously you do them in a sequence that slowly draws them back onto the heads but having done this on a number of occasions there is little pressure on those bolts, and if they had I’d not advocate this technique!
Undoing them simply allows movement rather than twisting the manifolds trying to manipulate them in line with the Y piece.
Breaking a manifold is not ideal and then requires re welding which can cause even more distortion.
But hey go crack on, excuse the pun.
