So far the conclusion on this is that everyone will have a different opinion! So here goes.

Does anyone out there know about or have ideas about what oil should be used for Chimaeras.
I know it should be Mobil 1 but what grade?

My Handbook says 5w/50
But I've read on here 0w/40 is good
And then Mobil 1 Motorsport is 15w/50

SO which is best.

Help Please its driving me mad!

I just called TMS to check what they would have put in my 500 at the last service.

The Service Dept said it was Mobile1 5/40 or 0/30...funny, but those ones don't get mentioned much. But these days they use Castrol RS 10/60, well, thats what they said they'll use at the next service.

Does that help any?

Mine's being fitted with Mobil Motorsport as I type. Bit thicker, therefore a bit more oil pressure and less used up too, slightly cheaper and recommended by many.

Had Chimaera 500 from new. Got back from 6000 milke service last week filled with Mobil 1 0W 50 (the sump thayt is) and done 400 miles since. Heres what I've found

Before (with min oil) guges read:
Oil 45, 50 revved/under load
Temp 75/80 never over 95

Now with Mob 1:
Oil 30, 40 under load
Temp 80, often 95/100

Is this because thinner oil or just got warmer weather.
Bought Mobil 1 15w 40 which I plan to use to top up, is this ok - wehat do all these number codes on oil mean anyway

I would recomend the Castrol RS10/60, after I saw the condition of the bearings after 50,000 miles on Mobile 1, I was redirescted to a different OIL, I do indeed run cooler and with 30% higher pressure too.

Maybe that's the the new bearings as well?

but Never again Mobile one, My opinion is that it isnot suited to cars that run so warm. you can get the Castrol, 20 Litres for £98 including postage from Castrol Classics they have a web site, but I don't have the number.

Mobil 1 motorsport is designed for higher temperatures so i think that if mobil 1 is used that is a better option, IMO
