do you have a multimeter (or one of those 12V lightprobes)? Best thing is to connect the multimeter across the terminals of the horn unit and see whether you get 12V (you'll obviously have to get someone else to press the horn button). If so, the horn itself is shot, time for a new one. If not, then one of the components you have already mentioned may be faulty, or it is a simple broken connectio somehere.

Just keep hunting with the multimeter.

Thanks,I do have a meter but was trying to avoid removing the grill.I doubt that both horn units have gone open circuit. I would expect the relay to click even if they had.

If you've got a multilmeter, why not just check the voltage across the realy's switch contacts. Should be 12V when its open circuit, dropping to zero when they are closed. If you aren't getting any juice on the switch side, try measuring the voltage across the relay's coil.

Thanks for your help.Having eliminated every possibilty I traced the problem back to the horn ring on the steering wheel boss. This was the first thing I tried but obviously did not clean it enough.I have only just bought the car and have no idea how long the horn was dead. The wifes nail emery board did the trick. She was not very happy with the state of it on return.Alls well that ends well.
