The Brockford chaps also spotted a big round hole (about 3")in the clutch casing - apparently there should be a blanking disc covering it. Should I get a new one? And as I'm getting increasingly sceptical about the people who serviced it, is the sort of thing that would be taken off at a 12,00 mile service and maybe left off? Still on the sceptical line, I'm sure the steering UJs and door hinges should be greased at 12,000 miles? Hmm..
If it is the big hole at the bottom of the bell housing don't bother. Most of them are like it. It has a big advantage that if the rear crank seal goes that the escaping oil doesn't collect and fill the housing causing the clutch to operate very smoothly indeed while being lubricated in an oil bath. With the cover removed the oil does a pretty good job of escaping and preserving the chassis. Been there done that. It also acts a very visible "I want some TLC and I want it now before I throw my toys out of the pram" warning from your loved one...
