There was a clunky noise coming from my engine lately. Seems that one of the cylinder inner-linings (if that is the right phrase) has let go and is now moving with the piston at some times.

Any idea what I can do about it, except for having the dealer take it apart, putting in a new lining etc which will cost me dearly?

thanks guys

It will be an engine out job. You mustn't drive the car any more as it could cause massive damage to the heads etc etc if left.

It does sound surprising that it only happens occasionally though. Are they/you sure that is the cause.

Unlucky if it is Gerjo.

As for an exact price I don't know though, but it will be high....

it's already at the dealer's.
Indeed, they also say it's an engine out job, plus a new lining etc.

They are quite sure, since they identified the lining having dents in it.
My question to the dealer was: how can this happen? Did I do anything wrong?
Answer: no, these things shouldn't happen unless you don't warm up the car.
This is the one thing I always do very carefully.

So it shouldn't happen but it did. Of course, 6 months after my warrenty has expired. There goes my potential budget for a carbon fibre ACT induction!

unlucky mate, at least it didn't lunch the engine like an old 2.6 ltr Rover SD1 I had did.....lining dropped out into the crank and chewed things up well and good
