Re-fitting rear targa section

Anyone,

Currently money is a little tight (or I am tight one of the two) and I need to think about re-fitting the rear targa section on the hood. It is coming away slightly at the drivers side and the back is starting to get a little loose.

The thing is that the hood is currently water tight and I am more than happy with its performance. However, I suspect that this wont last forever. So, how the hell do you remove the rear targa, and how do you re-fitt it so that the bottom lip is nice and flush with the bodywork? I have some PVA glue and hopefully the right tools, but not sure what to do.

Does it take two people and a nice day? Anyone out there done this before?

Not sure but I think the screws round the inside must have something to do with it.

Actually that wasn't much help was it? Bring it over here and I guarantee to remove it for you - but not get it back on.

Inside the boot area look under the lip of the opening where the roof meets the car and you'll find nuts on the back of the studs that are inserted into the targa section, these studs / nuts run all the way round to where the door opening button is (on older models), you'll need to undo all these before the roof will lift off, the ones furthest back are real hard to get to when taking off, but even harder when re-fitting, someone with small hands will find it easier. When re-fittting, just run a bead of silicone round before hand, that seems to do the trick. Hope this helps, good luck.

If it is watertight, then leave it alone. Think twice before removing it. The chances are that after it has come off and been put back it won't be. The factory use a special jig to replace the roof section to get the alignment right. It does take several people as it is heavy and you need hands to move it and align it.

Is the rear hood section that bad? If so then maybe I will get it fixed when I go to get a new hood sorted out. Aim to get this done before the end of the year and if it is such a nightmare then maybe I will just live with it for the moment.

Just thought that it might be worth attempting to refit and stick it back so that it is "nice" again.

It is like refitting a door. Either a doddle or two hours later it is worse than when you started.

If you are getting a new hood then I would leave well alone.

Steve's right, I fit doors for a living, thus I am used to the alignment side of things, if unsure, get the profesionals to look at it, not bodie and doyle though
