Head Gaskets Which Way

I'm just putting my engine back together and have a set of Elring composite gaskets but they are not marked with top for fitting.
The fire ring is thicker on one side so I'm assuming this faces the block?
Any ideas if this is right?

I doubt it matters very much otherwise the manufacturer would have market them 'top or 'front' etc.
