Sudden loss of Power.

Car was idling nicely and after I blipped the throttle the Techedge lambda gauge read lean ,it spluttered ,back fired and the battery light stayed on while struggling .

There is a code on the lambda gauge ,alternating between HBL and H OFF

Any ideas..?

A poor connection somewhere?

I used to have the tech edge, But had a few problems with it and swapped to zeitronixs.

H bl error is low battery voltage. Not sure a bout H OFF possibly heater off?

Battery is flat and not charging .

Fully charge it off the car and try again.

Sounds like an inspection of the infamous 100amp fuse is in order Daz

Find myself agreeing with a Chimp O’Gas......check your 100 amp fuse Daz.
If it has failed, the alternator won’t be charging the battery.
Have you got a battery charger? You can borrow my intelligent one if not.

Yes not charging ,I did try one of those alloy power steering resorvoirs but it made a loud bang when catching that thick cable .

Why is it under the engine and not part of the fuse box ..
What fuse do I need .

Standard 100amp flat fuse.

Daz, use a Midi fuse like this...



Not the feeble Strip fuse TVR chose that looks like this...



They will both be rated to blow as just over 100amps, but a Midi fuse is physically stronger so far less prone to fatigue related cracking which is actually the only reason it's a know point of failure on these cars.

Its not a better fuse Daz needs but a better understanding to not ground out the alternator +VE cable by the sounds of it lucky you have got a main fuse in-line or you would have blown a hole in your fancy PAS reservoir, if you had the alternator terminal cover in place you may have avoided this

Daz far be it for me to criticize but I bet you power down combi boilers etc when your fixing them on the water or gas side Oh well like suggested by many here already sure you will be fine and service will be resumed when you get than main-fuse changed out

What alternator cover ?mine just shows a bit of bare cable where it connects .

It’ll be like mine then,,, missing. I removed mine as it was cracked as it kept falling away anyway.

I did the same by re connecting battery, forgetting and knocking a spanner off the main feed, ya fighter

Give me a call if you are at home in the next five days Daz. Apart from early tomorrow afternoon and Friday morning, I am working at home and could pop over to help change the fuse, ie do it for you. I will have a root around for a spare fuse. I changed my fuse at Snetterton last year with the front of the car up on the trailer. Not easy when the sump is 90 degrees C.
