New owner here - picked up my Chim yesterday - still smiling.

Great first day - drove from Plymouth to Poole in the blazing December sun, roof down....oh yes. After several months of searching and looking and trawling this website, I am delighted to announce that the feeling is every bit as good as i hoped - and a million times better.

However, I appear to have one (very minor) problem and think that either i a) Can't read the owners handbook correctly, b) am being stupid or c) it's just the way it is.....

When the immobiliser sets itself (within 30 secs i believe), i cannot seem to mobilise the car by pressing the key pad just once (as stated in the manual).

Therefore i end up pressing once to set the alarm and lock myself in (!) and again to unlock, unset the alarm and mobilise.

Is the the way or am i being blinded by my enthusiasm to get in the thing and drive???

Regards

SGirl

Congratulations on the new car!!

Is this a Foxguard alarm by any chance? My Griff does exactly the same thing. I usually just reset the alarm with the door open (just in case...) and then disable it again.

Hi Duncan,

I only picked up my Chimaera 3 days ago, and I sort of had the same thing. I found that once you've unlocked the car and got in, if you turn the ignition on then off, then press the button to mobilise the car, then start it, it seems to work.

If theres another easier way, I'm sure a more experienced member will let us know!! I kind of like these little quirks though, makes the cars unique!!

Been doing the same thing for a year now. Get some fuel, get back in the car, lock myslef in with the keyfob and set alarm, then a nanosecond later unlock myself if you see what I mean, and hey presto, start the car.

My Chim has the Meta alarm fitted, if you get in quick (and I mean quick) after turning the alarm off you can just turn the key and start up without doing anything. If you are too slow all you have to do is turn on the ignition and hold the remote button down until you hear the fuel pump crank up let go of the remote and then start it.

Duncan is the batt flat in the remote? presumably it locks the car from outside as well so that might not be it? Do you also have an LED just under the ignition that flashes when immobilised, if so keep one eye on that and press the remote - the light should flash up constant or go off. Do you have a manual overide that you can push into a slot in the dash ? uuummm....
yes you should have bought a boxster if you wanted it to work the same everytime!!
I had exactly that with mine when i first had it, but like the third step on the stairs, you get used to how it likes to work itself very quickly!

go burn some optimax!

On mine you need to have the ignition switch ON before you push the button on the fob. Works fine for me that way...

Thanks for the replies chaps.

Also spoken to someone else re this who, like SGirl, feels it's a standard Foxguard alarm thing - in which case no worries - i didn't buy the car for the alarm after all!

Has anyone had an alarm go bad on them before. Mines a Foxguard and I could not switch it off at all. Two functioning key fobs made no difference - had to disconnect the battery and let the alarm back up run down! Now the entire electrical system is completely dead! Nothing at all despite re-charging battery, not the slightest flicker of any electrical activity. Checked fuse box and nothing apparent there either. Has anyone ever encountered this before? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yep! I've got a '96 Griff 500 with a Foxguard and every now and then it will immobilise itself, but won't respond to the key-fobs, it won't lock or anything. Had AA out to it and they went through overrides but no joy. Got it back home on the back of truck and it worked OK!?! Happen again few days ago, seems to just need about 1.5 hours to settle down and it resets itself?!?! Who knows...

Mark.

Have you still got the manual override immobiliser key (the black, plastic, rectangular)? If the fob for the alarm doesn't work then this should override the immobiliser.

Took me most of the first weekend of ownership before I got the hang of the alarm. After locking myself in etc, found I was pressing the fob too hard to disarm immobiliser. Press lightly or get key in ignition and turn quickly!!
