Oil change and gearbox noise
Discussion
Hi chaps
Changed oil last night, and all seems well after 150miles to work...... but it took over 6 litres to fill to "FULL" on the dipstick. Is this normal. This included filling the filter 1st,as per the bible.
Used Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w50. Pressure seems better when up to temperature and probably just me but sounds a bit smoother at tickover too.
Had the centre console out to fix last month's gear linkage problem and was driving around with it off. The gearbox noise was obviously more intrusive but noticed what can only be described as a whistling/screaming
noise in all gears when slowing down at around 30mph. It seems to go away when the 'box is warmed up.
I know it could be any number of things but as I'm going to take the box out to fit a new clutch and release bearing, has anyone had the same problem. It kind of sounds like a firework rocket noise, only quieter.
Cheers
Ed

hi edhorn, theres a good debate on griff section at the moement about oil and correct pressure etc.if you read it youll see im a great fan of 15-50 type mobil 1 after a hard learnt lesson with previous chimp!your right though as it does indeed give better pressure,a quieter engine and the benefit of better high temp protection.my advice is to stick with it imho.oh,and yes it does take 6 litres to fill up oil and filter so nowt wrong there!(damned expensive though isnt it)
By the time you've spilt some on the garage floor - knocked your new filter over once or twice - waited for the sump to refill completely - panicked that your oil pump is no longer primed - wondered about the 'Adam Quantrill' method - and spun three times round on a Tuesday evening whilst singing TATU lyrics, 6 litres it is. Actually, scrub the TATU lyrics.
