Just had my manifold gaskets replaced and have noticed since then that the oil pressure gauge is constantly locked on absolute max (i.e. beyond 90) - only moves when I switch the car off.

Is this likely to be a problem with the gauge or the sensor? Do you reckon it happened while they were fiddling with the exhaust?

Is there anything obvious I can look for under the bonnet?

Sensor is low down on the driver's side of the engine, at the front. Close enough to the manifold that they might have knocked a wire loose while they were working. The sensor is screwed into the oil filter head, you should see a (small) oil pressure warning switch and a (bigger) oil pressure sensor.

Many thanks Peter.

I'll take a look tonight.

Yup - had similar on the Griff. It was sender end of things in my case, although it could potentially be either. Gauge would start at right and settle down to it's proper reading only when warmed up.

Hope you get that sorted easily.

Thanks guys - a wire from the top of the filter had not been reconnected to whatever it is that it leads to (techincal eh?!). Had to make a 45p investment in some 4mm nuts and the problem was solved.

Awkward to get to with no ramp, mind. And I had to do it all by hand - couldn't get a screwdriver anywhere near it!
