Went to go for a trip this evening to be greeted by a door that won't open. I think the battery is flat. The alarm will switch on and off but the door won't open.

What's the recomended way to get in so jump leads can be attached?

Guy,

I note that you are in London so, if it is of help, I've just had a new battery fitted by Tower View (Staples Corner) - 75 for a big battery and 25 for the fitting (plus VAT) was a lot quicker and easier than doing it myself.

I've managed to get in now so can put it on charge.
Phew!

I think a new battery is on order so dumb question time...

Are the batteries standard size? It looks a bit small to me but perhaps that's just the worry!

I got a replacement at Halfords, just take the old one up to make sure you get the correct terminals on the right/left side of the battery. Buy a nice big chunky one that will fit the battery box. Rich...

Everything about Chimaera batteries and fitting them and yes check that the replacement will fit the space allocated is in the bible and on my website. Download the Sample chapter for the GRiff/Chimaera.

After my battery failed whilst I was driving my car, I called the nice friendly AA man out to help me. He did not have the corret size battery with him so fitted a temporary battery to get me home. He then turned up the next morning at my home with the correct size battery, removed his temporary battery, fitted my new one, gave me a 3 (or was it 5) year warranty and charged me about 56 quid for the privilege. This was cheaper than buying a battery from Halfwits and with more of a warranty. No fitting charges - he didn't even want a cup of coffee. Bravo to the AA I say.

Reason I mentioned the terminals is that at first I just measured my old one and took a tape measure with me to save effort. Thought I had memorised the style/type of terminal and didn't realise that some are are handed left & right. R...

Thanks to Big Al for a pointer or two.

I'll be ordering a copy of the TVR book and some charging leads from the TVR club. I had a read of the battery page online at work today.

Just taken the wife for a quick spin to put the smile back on our faces. It did not take long!
